Lizzie Armitstead Announced As Wattbike Ambassador

January 15, 2016 3 min read

Today we're pleased to announce that reigning World, Commonwealth and National road race champion Lizzie Armitstead has come on board as our latest Wattbike ambassador.

Lizzie is an athlete truly at the top of her game. In 2016 she has her sights set on Rio and plans to integrate the Wattbike into her training to ahead of her big upcoming races.

I'm incredibly excited to be working with the Wattbike team. I have used Wattbikes for testing and I'm looking forward to integrating the Wattbike fully in to my training schedule. Cycling can come down to minute differences, and the level of measurability, reliability and accuracy the Wattbike provides really allows me to monitor my training and progress to such an in depth level, which makes a huge difference in my sport. Having a Wattbike at home will allow me to do really specific sessions that I simply can't do on the road or on aturbo trainer and help me to make even more improvements in 2016."

"The Wattbike will be an instrumental tool in my training in the run up to Rio. I have some very specific training goals and with the Wattbike I will be able to accurately monitor my power outputs, train in the right zones in a controlled environment and measure my progress to ensure every session is of high quality.”

We're thrilled to be working with Lizzie and we are excited to see what the future holds for this new partnership.

Wattbike, the makers of the world's most sophisticated static bike, is pleased and proud to announce that Lizzie Armitstead, the reigning World, Commonwealth and National road race champion, has chosen to integrate the Wattbike into her training arsenal as an official Wattbike Ambassador.

For 2016, Armitstead is highly focused on going one better than London 2012's silver by adding Olympic road race gold to her already impressive palmares. With a course favouring climbers, Rio contrasts markedly to the puncheur's course of Richmond, USA, upon which Armitstead won her Rainbow Stripes.

Having used the Wattbike for fitness testing in the past, Armitstead – who is also the reigning double UCI Women’s World Cup Champion – is very familiar with how invaluable the bike is for tracking progress but, with Rio requiring absolute perfection, she refuses to leave success up to chance:

“Cycling can come down to minute differences, and the level of measurability, reliability and accuracy the Wattbike provides really allows me to monitor my training and progress to such an in depth level, which makes a huge difference,”she says. “I have chosen to use a Wattbike because it offers a really realistic ride which feels like riding on the road and I know that no matter what I throw at the bike, it will be able to stand up to the demands of the high intensity sessions. The data will allow me to dial in my sessions and extract every watt. I don't want to leave anything to chance and I know I can rely on the Wattbike."

The Wattbike will form a crucial component in her preparation for the road race on Sunday 7th August.

"It will be an instrumental tool in my training in the run up to Rio. I have some very specific training goals and with the Wattbike I will be able to accurately monitor my power outputs, train in the right zones in a controlled environment and measure my progress to ensure every session is of high quality.”

Wattbike’s Marketing Manager Tom Crampton said:“We are delighted that Lizzie has chosen to become a Wattbike ambassador. For an athlete of Lizzie’s calibre to believe the Wattbike can help her improve her performance even more and make the difference in her quest for Olympic gold is a great compliment. We are looking forward to supporting Lizzie’s training goals in the run up to Rio and beyond.”
